This section of our website will allow visitors:

  • to gain an understanding of the reasons why medals are awarded;

  • to view most of the medals awarded as a result of military service in the defence of Australia; and

  • to access detailed information on selected awards.

Lost and unclaimed medals

Service medals, once issued, cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Reproduction medals (full-size or miniatures) for family display or for wearing on ANZAC Day can be readily purchased from medal dealers.

Medals never claimed can be issued still, to the person to whom awarded or to next-of-kin, provided certain criteria are met. Contact  the following:
