Details

As Sullivan’s platoon was crossing the river by means of a narrow plank, four of them, including an officer, fell off into a swamp. Without hesitation, and despite the intense fire they were under, Sullivan jumped in and rescued all four, bringing them out one by one. His exhausted comrades would undoubtedly have drowned without his assistance.
