Compared
with earlier conflicts, Australian wounded of the Vietnam War were much more
likely to survive. The combination of helicopter evacuation ("dustoff")
and proximity of excellent medical facilities (the 1st Australian Field
Hospital was based in Vung Tau) were significant factors.
